Research Fellow, Haematology

Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand

1 FTE Research Fellow/MOSS, 1 year fixed-term starting 1 February 2024

Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau District is a dynamic and progressive organisation at the forefront of innovative health delivery, working with Aotearoa New Zealand’s most culturally diverse population.   The primary hospital for our district is Middlemore Hospital, an 800-bed teaching hospital providing medical and surgical care to a diverse and rapidly growing population of approximately 600,000 people.  Te Whatu Ora is a key entity of the recently restructured health system in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic, committed, passionate about patients and making a difference to people’s lives.  You can be a Research Fellow, newly qualified haematologist, or senior advanced trainee to join our existing team of 7 haematologists. As well as clinical service delivery, this position includes 0.5 FTE for dedicated clinical research with Aotearoa Clinical Trials and a key component of the role is advancing clinical research practice within the department so you will be at the forefront of innovation and excellence.  The role is considered non-core for FRACP/FRCPA training in New Zealand.

You will also be expected to bring your talent and enthusiasm to achieve our obligations to Te Tiriti o Waitangi to achieve equity for Maaori, the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand, as well as achieving better health outcomes for all New Zealanders.

The Haematology department provides diagnosis, specialist consultation and clinical management for patients with the full range of haematological disorders. The department has an in-patient ward, chemotherapy day ward, outpatient clinics, thrombosis service and haematology laboratory and blood bank, all located on-site as well as the clinical trials portfolio mentioned earlier.

You’ll be part of our established team and supported by a professional team of nursing, allied health, and scientific staff.   Applicants would ideally be Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Australasia although we are very open to international applicants for this position.  If relocating internationally, we will support you with relocation costs.  You will need to be eligible for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or completing your advanced training in haematology.
