We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Acute Adult Mental Health Services team working in a modern adult inpatient mental health unit in the North Island of New Zealand.
You will be motivated, enthusiastic, and a highly professional Doctor, ready to work as part of a dynamic team, delivering quality equity-focused mental health inpatient care.
This role provides critical leadership for our inpatient and has the opportunity to contribute to policy, procedure, and service development, and support the team through the next stages of health sector reform. The Consultant Psychiatrist leads one of our medical teams and acts as a role model for high standards of care by supporting an environment where excellence can flourish.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a genuine commitment to the people we serve, within the diverse and culturally rich community. You will demonstrate, excellent communication skills, be highly organized, and possess honesty, integrity ,and professionalism. You will need to have the ability to promote teamwork and navigate through the challenges of providing complex care to patients with complex presentations, by promoting a strong team culture and function, and a genuine focus on equitable health systems and outcomes.
Supported by the leadership team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to strategic and service development. Working alongside the Service Manager, Acute & Hospital Services, the Clinical Head and members of the Senior Leadership Team, you will support the implementation of service goals, and grow a workplace of excellence, by applying the latest evidence to inform the model of care.

Please note – Vocational registration with the Medical Council of NZ in the scope of Psychiatry and a current APC is essential at the commencement of employment.
Consultant Psychiatrists who are deemed eligible for special purpose locum tenens registration with the medical council of NZ are also of interest for locum placements of three months or more, whilst permanent cover is sought.
