The position:

This South Island DHB covers an area of approximately 330,000 people through two main hospitals. If you are looking for a role in a team that values kindness and working collaboratively, with a view to the future of healthcare, then read on.

Our Physicians contribute to the professional development and supervision of the supporting team of Registrars, House Officers and students. Teaching sessions are an implicit and regular feature of our department and includes formal lectures, weekly journal club, medical forums, grand rounds and audit meetings. Our Physicians pride themselves on providing excellent Registrar exam preparation courses and enjoy a nearly 100% success rate.

Whilst our senior staff primarily provide acute inpatient care for our patients, we also provide outpatient clinics at times to satellite hospitals.

You will be joining a dedicated team of Physicians all of whom participate in the rostered leadership of our on call Internal Medicine team, which operates 24/7, 365 days per year. Service provision will include equal participation in the after hour roster for weeknights and weekends, at times you will be a second on-call on the roster. This is a full time role with on call duties.

The main hospital is a 350 bed tertiary hospital with close links to the nearby University.

As the successful candidate, you will have a broad Internal Medicine background. We are keen to hear from you if you are dual trained, and will support an approach to the relevant DHB service to support your additional interest.

A fellowship with the RACP or an overseas equivalent is essential, as is eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Applications from overseas Physicians are welcome with a start date negotiated taking New Zealand registration and immigration requirements into consideration.

The location:
This South Island city is smaller but has a bustling place with a big town feel. Good schools, good transportation, safe city, cultural events, music, art, international cuisine, and outdoor activities abound. Wonderful dark skies afford great views of the Southern Lights and daytime hours can be spent at the beach, hiking in the hills or sipping lattes in the central cafes.
