Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) is a service for older adults provided in both an inpatient and community setting.
This service covers two locations within the District Health Board.
This specific position is a service-based position, initially as an inpatient role, with an opportunity to rotate through the community teams.
This role would include involvement in the neuro-stimulation service which currently delivers electroconvulsive therapy to the clients.
This team reports to the division of Specialty Medicine & Health of Older People. The MHSOA team maintains strong professional links to the Mental Health Services Group.
Inpatient Unit – is a 19-bed inpatient unit on the Northern Hospital campus that provides inpatient assessment and treatment for the two older adult community mental health teams.
Community Teams – There are two community teams – one in the North area covering two districts, and another covering the west side of the region – who work collaboratively with the inpatient teams.
The service operates a clinical governance model that allows close involvement of clinicians in service development, service planning and quality improvement initiatives.
It is an accredited training service and has rotating pre-examination psychiatry trainees and advanced trainees in psychiatry of old age; therefore teaching and supervision of training registrars, house officers, medical students and clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team are core functions for the consultants in the service.
A thriving city awaits with everything you could need from a location. Stunning water views are not far away from any part of the inner city and an endless number of activities to suit everyone are on offer.
The hospital provides the full range of specialities and sub-specialities to the local population.
