Geriatric Consultant – Ireland

MatchMedics is partnering with Sligo University Hospital to recruit a Consultant Geriatrician to join a progressive and expanding Older Persons service. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality consultant-led care for older adults across acute, rehabilitation, and community-integrated settings, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to support safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of integrated care models for older persons, aligned with national HSE strategies including ICPOP (Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons).

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties

• Provide consultant-level care in Geriatric Medicine across acute and non-acute settings
• Deliver comprehensive geriatric assessment for older adults presenting with complex medical needs
• Participate in acute medical take, inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation services (as applicable)
• Contribute to frailty, falls, dementia, delirium, and stroke care pathways
• Participate in the consultant on-call rota
• Support integrated working between hospital and community services

Leadership & Governance

• Participate in clinical governance, audit, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives
• Support service planning and development within the Older Persons service
• Contribute to patient safety, clinical effectiveness, and national performance indicators

Teaching & Training

• Supervise and teach NCHDs, medical students, nurses, and allied health professionals
• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education
  Support continuing professional development within the department
• Research & Service Development
• Participate in clinical audit, research, and service evaluation
  Contribute to service innovation aligned with HSE and Saolta Group strategies

What’s on offer:

·        Salary: €233,527 – €280,513 per year (based on experience)

·        Additional earnings: Extra hours are paid separately and can add up to €40,000+ annually, depending on the hospital

·        Working hours: 37 hours per week

·        Annual leave: 30 days
