About the Opportunity

The Aberdeen Hospital, in New Glasgow , is seeking hospitalists to join their team.  There is an opportunity for applicants to engage in research and/or have medical teaching positions with Dalhousie University, should that be of interest. The current remuneration arrangement is a set daily rate as per the provincial hospitalist agreement with a stipend, plus fee-for-service billings for on-call work.
At the Aberdeen, 1.5 hospitalist lines and a group of community family physicians that admit their own patients, will cover inpatient care outside the ICU.  Each hospitalist line consists of approximately 18 patients.  Patients are spread across several units in the hospital and are composed of medical patients outside of the RCU and telemetry and surgical patients attended to with support of appropriate specialist physicians.  Daytime coverage is 8am to 5pm and on-call coverage is 5pm to 8am, not exceeding 1 in 4 nights.   If you are interested in a broader scope of practice that includes, but is not limited to hospitalist work, there are many possible opportunities in New Glasgow and surrounding communities.

Duties include full scope of practice as a hospitalist providing care to patients within the Northern Zone and participating in call, Physician will be responsible to the Zone Department Head of Family Practice for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority

License and Eligibility
Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS), eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)and hold membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

Remuneration options include a daily rate, with an estimated annual salary of $250,000-300,000. In addition, call stipends and other incentives are available through the Master Agreement between the Province of Nova Scotia and Doctors Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia Health offers a comprehensive site visit program and will cover eligible relocation expenses. Virtual and in-person site visits are available. The Department of Health & Wellness offers competitive incentive program.
